CHANGCHUN, Jan. 13 (Xinhua) — Northeast China's Jilin Province has made great progress in domestic waste treatment and dilapidated building renovation, which has significantly improved the rural living environment, local authorities said Monday.

By the end of 2019, Jilin had invested a total of 1.41 billion yuan (204.64 million U.S. dollars) to establish a domestic waste collection, transportation and disposal system in the rural areas and build up related facilities, according to a press conference on rural vitalization.

The system covered more than 6,600 administrative villages by the end of 2019 in Jilin where over 400 waste transfer stations and 383,000 waste collection facilities have been built, according to the press conference.

In 2018 and 2019, the province collected and transported over 2.82 million tonnes of domestic garbage, of which 477,300 tonnes were biologically treated and more than 2.3 million tonnes were incinerated for power generation.

From 2016 to 2019, with a total investment of 3.33 billion yuan, Jilin renovated 191,400 rural dilapidated houses, of which 100,000 belong to poverty-stricken households.

The province built toilets for 164,000 households in villages last year and plans to renovate toilets for 150,000 rural households this year, according to the press conference.
